The 2nd Annual Raider Open Benefits Student Athletes and Activities

Raiders hit the links for the 2nd annual Raider Open Golf Tournament, held at the Mendakota Country Club on July 8. This year, because of overwhelming demand, the Raider Open had two shotgun starts, the first at 8 am and the second at 1 pm.

Athletic Director Matt Funk was enthusiastic about the opportunity to host nearly 200 alumni and friends at the golf tournament, saying “It is a pleasure to see so many of the Raider community out here displaying their spirit and enthusiasm for such a great institution like CDH. It is a true testament to the rich traditions of CDH’s athletics and activities and shows strong support within our community.”  

Prizes were awarded for winning teams and individuals. 

Morning Session

In the men's division, the team captained by Matt Petersen shot an overall score of -13. In the women's division, Alyssa Karel Ylinen ’07 captained the winning team with an overall score of -3. Individual contest winners included: Men’s Longest Drive - Bob Kinne ’11, Women’s Longest Drive - Kalay Kotasek ’15, Men’s Closest to the Pin - Jake Guzik, Women’s Closest to the Pin - Megan Namowicz, Men’s Longest Putt - Tony Rodriguez, Women’s Longest Putt - Callie Dahl.

Afternoon Session

The winning team in the men’s division was captained by Brian Kilberg ’02 with an overall score of -16.  In the women’s division,  the team captained by Emmy Springer was victorious with an overall score of -6. Individual contest winners in the afternoon session were as follows: Men’s Longest Drive - Paul Rafferty ’96, Women’s Longest Drive - Grace Todora Kinne ’11, Men’s Closest to the Pin - Tino Vasquez, Women’s Closest to the Pin - Kelly Kneeland McQuillan ’91, Men’s Longest Putt -  Trevor Warner, Women’s Longest Putt - Katie Mancini ’09. 

The Raider Open was established in 2023 to build community and raise funds to offset the costs of student athletic and activity fees. As part of the program, Associate Athletic Directors Tony Yazbeck and Tara Seifert, along with Athletic Director Matt Funk updated golfers about the athletic program at CDH and their mantra, “Culture Creates Champions.” New CDH President Jeb Myers also thanked the golfers at the end of the tournament for their ongoing interest in and support of CDH.

“The Raider Open is a great tradition to bring our CDH community together and celebrate what a special place CDH is while doing something to benefit our students in both athletics and activities.” said Kevin Dolan ’91. “As a former student athlete at CDH and now a parent of current and past student-athletes, I really appreciate what the Raider Open is doing for our programs.”
