750 Sandwiches Packaged in 30 Minutes
February 21, 2017
Students in three different CASA families worked together to pack more than 750 sandwiches for local organization, 363 Days.
Students in the Nordby/Springer CASA and the Broos/Macken CASA planned to work together in a service effort during a normal CASA meeting. After learning about the work of Allan Law and 363 Days, they decided to fund and pack as many sandwiches as possible in their regularly scheduled CASA meeting on February 21, 2017.
In addition, the P.Murray/Johnson CASA had already contacted 363 Days and planned to do the same.
As a result, in one CASA meeting session this week, these three CASA families were able to donate more than 750 sandwiches. In addition, Allan Law, affectionately known as 'The Sandwich Man' and founder of 363 Days, was able to meet with the students to not only thank the students for their efforts, but he helped illuminate the challenges faced by the homeless in our area.
The 363 Days Food Program distributes an average of 1600 sandwiches a night to Twin Cities partner shelters and locations serving the homeless and hungry including:
• Catholic Charities: Minneapolis
• Dorothy Day Center: Catholic Charities St. Paul
• Hospitality House: Minneapolis
• Little Earth: Minneapolis
• Loaves & Fishes: Minneapolis
• Marie Sandvik Center: Minneapolis
• River of Life Church: Minneapolis
• Salvation Army/Harbor Light Safe Bay: Minneapolis
• Sharing & Caring Hands: Minneapolis
• Union Gospel Mission: St. Paul
• Urban League: Minneapolis
All sandwiches donated to 363 Days are made by community organizations such as the three Cretin-Derham Hall CASA families involved in today's project.
