CDH Alumni/Current Art Teachers Collaborate on Student Art Project
February 14, 2024
Kindergartners from Highland Catholic School received a special invitation to collaborate with Martha Thornton '99 and her Ceramics II students on February 13 for a unique project. Thornton and Clare Tures-Haider '02, a former CDH Art Teacher and current Highland Catholic Art Teacher, are longtime friends and former colleagues who conceived this project together.
In preparation for the event, each kindergartener conceptualized an imaginary creature, which the CDH Art students brought to life through 3D clay sculptures. Paired with their CDH "buddy," the kindergarteners sat down to paint their creatures. Reflecting on the experience, Claire Linn '24, a CDH art student, expressed her favorite part as "seeing how happy the kids were when they could see an actual creation of what they drew."
Thornton was very happy with the success of the event and proud of both student groups for their harmonious collaboration despite a late start, commenting "It melted my heart seeing them paired up with their buddies and working so nicely together." She particularly appreciated the opportunity to work with her friend Ms. Tures-Haider as well as some of the boys she coaches in hockey.
