CDH Celebrates Paul Nyberg
Mark McGuire, Math/TLC/Math Team Coach
May 22, 2017
Paul Nyberg started teaching at Derham Hall in 1983, moved across the field to Cretin in 1985, and has taught at Cretin-Derham Hall since the merger. His iconic bow tie fashion sense inspired a big group of faculty, staff and students to take his lead and wear their own bow tie in his honor this past week.
Mr. Nyberg is a "master craftsman," always in pursuit of the most effective method to teach his students. He brings creativity and passion to everything he does, inviting students to turn formulas and theories into projects, engaging all of their abilities. He challenges not only students' mathematical abilities but their human sensitivities, as well.
It is Mr. Nyberg's relationship with students that makes him a truly exceptional educator. He refers to his students as Mr. or Ms., conferring dignity and responsibility and encouraging them to think for themselves as young adults. He is seen most days, before, during, and after school, conversing with current and former students, graduates and colleagues, creating a community of learners, always curious and compassionate. He will be missed as much for his ability to inspire students as his ability to build long-lasting, meaningful relationships with everyone he meets.
