CDH Celebrates Third Annual Heritage History Month
October 8, 2018
The third annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration was Monday, October 8, 2018.
The all-school assembly featured guest speaker, Maija Garcia, a Cuban-American director, dance maker, and educator who choreographed this summer's "West Side Story" at the Guthrie. She will be the Guthrie's new director of a professional training program, while overseeing the theater's internship and fellowship programs.
Music was provided by Mariachi Estrella—the first time a mariachi band has performed at CDH's Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration.
Students also shared stories of their own Hispanic heritages with classmates.
The Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration was organized by Edmundo Villalva Lijo, Callahan Rios, and Cuc Phuong (Jenny) Vu of the CDH Solidarity Club. Other cultural celebrations planned for this school year include Black History/Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in January and Asian-Pacific Islander in April.
