CDH Honors Black History Month with Music, Storytelling, and Student Voices

February 6, 2025

Cretin-Derham Hall honored Black History Month with an all-school assembly on February 5, bringing students together for storytelling, music, and reflection.

Student emcee Tank Edwards ’25 led the program, introducing Brooklyn Johnson ’25 and Zoe Ewald ’25, who shared their experiences as multiracial students at CDH and spoke about the importance of friendship in shaping their identities.

The celebration also featured a performance, "The Best of Billie and Me," by Thomasina Petrus on vocals and Thom West on piano. Through music and storytelling, Petrus paid tribute to the legendary Billie Holiday, highlighting her influence on jazz and American culture. The performance resonated with the students, many of whom stayed afterwards to speak with Petrus and West.

CDH continues to recognize and celebrate diverse cultural heritages throughout the year, inviting guest speakers and performers while also amplifying student voices.
