CDH Speech Team Competed at Section Meet
April 10, 2018
The Cretin-Derham Hall Speech team is about students learning that their voice matters. Team members learn about empowering themselves to feel confident in their speaking abilities. Each student selects and memorizes an eight-to-ten-minute speech that they present at least three times at tournaments. Over the season, CDH students have consistently finished well at tournaments. Last year, nine students on the Speech team earned a spot to compete at sections and the number grew to 15 this year.
The whole team did very well at the Section 3AA meet on March 21, 2018, considering that of the 15 CDH students competing, ten were first-year team members.
Two of the team members advanced to the finals: Claire Fitzpatrick'18 and Abraham Teuber'18.
Claire placed seventh in "Discussion" and Abraham placed third in "Prose." Abraham advanced to the AA State Speech Meet held Friday, April 20, 2018, at Apple Valley High School.
Members of the Speech team are Ella Doyle'19, Fitzpatrick, Eleanor Friar'20, Isaac Johnson'20, Linda Johnson'18, Lucy Johnston'20, Katie Mattock'18, Therese Mellum'18, Emmanuel Monrovia-Tommy'20, Alex Ngo'21, Gracie Regala'18, Katie Schearer'18, Teuber, Ethan Thompson'20, and Mathew Umoh'19.
