CDH Values, COVID-Style

Students in MDM Values spend time observing the posters of their classmates displayed on mobiles as they create personal definitions of the seven CDH values: academic, Catholic, community, diversity, equity, leadership, and service.

Social distancing guidelines forced a change in how CDH conducts its Values Symposium classes. Normally, students sit at tables where they spend time building community and fostering teamwork as they learn the school’s values of academic, Catholic, community, diversity, equity, leadership, and service.

One highlight for the teachers in MDM (Markert-DeVos-Moss) Values in the past has been a movie-making project. Each table team was responsible for teaching their assigned value to the rest of the class. The movies provided an opportunity for the table teams to bond while creating a group presentation for the class.

However, in 2020, the tables are gone, half of the class is present each day, and it is difficult to assign group projects while maintaining appropriate social distancing. Therefore, each student created a poster to explain an assigned value, and one day was set aside for all students to do a walking tour of their classmates’ work. Posters included definitions, quotes, images, original artwork, and photos of role models to help explain what each of the CDH values means in the life of the school.
