“Our greatest hope is that we’re successful building a community of scholars who become a ‘world force’, meaning they support each other, they network with each other, they collaboratively and collectively contribute to society in a very big way to make our world a better place.” — Beth Flaherty, Executive Director

The Flaherty Family Foundation has made a significant impact In the lives of 33 current and former students at CDH.

The Flaherty Family Foundation empowers high-potential scholars with scholarships, matched with personalized coaching and mentoring for academic achievement, college and career readiness, and opportunities to reach their God-given potential.

Flaherty Scholars, known for their exceptional work ethic and resilience, are driven individuals with a commitment to earning a college degree. They not only excel academically, but also make positive contributions to their communities, embodying leadership and a responsibility for shaping their own journey.

“The Flaherty Family Foundation has been a phenomenal resource for me throughout my high school years. We do assignments that help us explore our passions, prepare us for college, and more. Without them, I would not be college-ready or even world-ready. Ms. Woods, my Flaherty coordinator, is always a phone call away to help us with anything we need. Flaherty will support me in any endeavor I take on and help me along the way. I am so thankful for their support in all I do and belief in my ability to do great things!” Clare Lasure ’25, Flaherty Scholar

Beyond the vital financial support, ranging from $3,000- $5,000 each year off their tuition, Flaherty Scholars receive vital guidance in various life aspects, including responsibility, self-awareness, lifelong learning, emotional intelligence, self-confidence, interdependence, self-motivation, and self- management skills.

Students and families who meet the specific criteria set forth by the Foundation receive a distinct invitation to directly apply for the Flaherty Family Foundation’s pre-collegiate scholarship opportunity. This selection process is designed to ensure that those who demonstrate exceptional promise and meet the eligibility requirements gain access to the personalized support they require to thrive academically and beyond.

Working in partnership with Cretin-Derham Hall since 2016, the Foundation provides scholarships for up to five incoming ninth-graders each year.

The Foundation was created in 1990 by Ed Flaherty, a successful entrepreneur and product of Catholic education himself. Rather than planning to leave his wealth to his children, he committed his entire net worth to helping other young people access the same educational advantages.

“We are very grateful for our partnership with the Flaherty Foundation,” noted Rob Bollinger, Vice President for Advancement. “Because of the Flaherty Foundation, these students have access to a CDH education with their generous tuition assistance and ongoing personal support.”

CDH offers many ways for donors to impact our students through scholarship programs and tuition assistance. If you would like more information, call Peggy Gilligan, Director of Annual Fund at 651-696-3319 or give today at c-dh.org/give.
