Frank Miley Named Affiliated Member of the Christian Brothers
August 27, 2024
Frank Miley, former president of Cretin-Derham Hall, has been honored as an Affiliated Member of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, a prestigious recognition for those who significantly contribute to the mission of the Brothers. Frank's dedication to the Brothers and their educational mission spans nearly four decades.
A prayer service was held for him on August 14, in the Blessed Brother James Miller Chapel on campus, attended by family and friends, along with Brothers from the Midwest District.
Frank’s connection to the Christian Brothers and their work began in 1985 when he co-facilitated Lasallian Retreats at Dunrovin Christian Brothers Retreat Center. Over the years, his contributions have included launching the Lasallian Youth program, promoting Lasallian formation programs, and playing a pivotal role in incorporating Holy Family Catholic High School into the Lasallian network.
As the president of both Cretin-Derham Hall and Holy Family Catholic High School, Frank worked diligently to advance the Lasallian mission. Frank was instrumental in initiatives like the re-dedication of the CDH chapel to Blessed Brother James Miller and the creation of the Lentsch Forum, a space for students and community to gather and connect.
Brother Pat Conway '71, a Christian Brother and close friend of the Miley family, highlighted the significance of this affiliation, noting that the Provincial Council in Chicago, along with the Superior General and his Council in Rome, recognized Frank’s unwavering support for the Brothers’ mission.
He praised Frank for embodying the values of St. John Baptist de La Salle, the founder of the Christian Brothers and for his commitment to and affection for the Brothers over the years.
Frank’s legacy reflects the values passed down to him by his parents, which he, in turn, has instilled in his own family. "Clearly," said Brother Conway, "Frank has embraced the work ethic, generosity, compassion, empathy, awareness of those who struggle, and selfless concern for the well-being of others passed on by his mother and father, just as he has embraced the Lasallian educational tradition."
He thanked Frank for all he has done for the thousands of young people entrusted to the Brothers' care and for the Lasallian colleagues in perpetuating their mission of education. Acknowledging Frank’s contributions, Brother Conway expressed confidence that St. John Baptist de La Salle would have said, “Well done, my good and faithful servant…my Brother!”
Reflecting on his journey with the Christian Brothers, Miley shared, “I have had the distinct pleasure of being associated with the Christian Brothers for the past 40 years. During that time, they have shared their mission and work with me and my family. My children have been educated by them at the secondary, undergraduate, and graduate levels. They have formed us spiritually and brought each of us closer to our Church and God. I can think of no greater honor than being Affiliated as a Christian Brother. I look forward to enjoying many more years of service as a Lasallian."
Miley left CDH in 2023 to be a Trustee and Co-CEO of the Otto Bremer Foundation. He served CDH as President and Vice President of Advancement for 15 years.
CDH congratulates Frank Miley on his life of service alongside the Christian Brothers.
