Boys Lacrosse
By Matt Hourigan, Head Coach
The Boys Lacrosse team finished its regular season with a record of 9-4, matching the 2017 Raiders for the most regular-season wins in program history! The team finished second in the Suburban East Conference and earned the #2 seed in Section 3 for postseason play. After a 9-7 Section Quarterfinal victory vs. Woodbury last week, the boys will take on Simley High School at CDH this week in the Section Semifinal.
Several program records were set on the field this year, including most regular-season assists in program history (36) by attackman Gabe Rasmussen ’22 and lowest Goals Against Average (6.23) for goalie Eddie Kielkopf ’23. Attackman Luke McCarthy ’22 paced the team with 35 goals, midfielder Chuck Altier ’21 scooped a team-high 56 ground balls, and defender Aidan Siegfried ’24 caused 47 turnovers to lead the squad on the defensive end.
All five of these players were also named to the Suburban East All-Conference Team for 2021 - the largest representation by Raider players in program history! They were joined by Will Kaatz ’21, Sean Mix ’22, and Owen Dobbs ’22 who also received All-Conference Honorable Mention recognition.
Softball
By Patrick Bowlin, Head Coach
The softball team is currently 9-12 after winning its first two playoff games over Visitation (18-5) and Simley (6-4). The Raiders have won five of their past six games and are playing their best softball of the season heading into the final rounds of section tournament play. Sammy Muetzel '22 leads the team with an impressive .463 batting average and a team-leading 16 runs scored and 17 RBIs. Frances Staples '21 hit her first career home run in the first-round playoff game against Visitation and has been productive at the plate all year with a .400 batting average. Both Muetzel and Staples were named All-Conference in the Suburban East. Brooke Nesdahl '25 has been a bright spot on the mound while Anna Caruso '22, Sophie Black '23, and Shannon Cummings '21 have been strong at the plate and in the field. The Raiders are two wins away from its first state tournament berth since 1991.
Additionally, the softball team was awarded the Minnesota Fastpitch Coaches Association GOLD Team Academic Award, while Staples, Caroline Kitchen '21, Keely Salisbury '21, and Ella Klein '21 were awarded Academic All-State.

Theater
By Katie Kreitzer, Theater Director
Our end-of-the-year final gathering was held at Mattocks Park on May 19. Theater students played our traditional end-of-the-year games: Name the Line from the Season and The Bad Acting Contest. Someone brought a badminton set. The theater students did some much-needed celebrating after a year that almost wasn't. Each participant received a pin with a photo of the Lillian Theater stating, "Love from the Lillian." Congratulations to our Theater Award Winners for the 2020/21 season:
- those who took acting classes online and in person
- those who produced outside at St. Kates
- those who participated in online rehearsals
- those who created theater on the green screen in the Black Box Theater
- those who worked on the Lillian Stage
- those who rehearsed and performed around the CDH building to create our first-ever musical on film
- those who worked behind the scenes on the film crew.
- and, of course, those who watched the plays online and on the CDH field.
JROTC
Although there were many challenges for the students with the pandemic, we have successfully managed to complete the 104th year of JROTC at CDH. Although we were not able to conduct our traditional parades, inspections, and service events, we did see a lot of great things shine through. We saw our seniors adapt to the challenges this year and grow as leaders in school and we see them becoming wonderful leaders in the future for our communities. Our enrollment continues to grow. We will start next fall with approximately 310 cadets in the program.
We continue to plan for our annual adventure training weekend at Camp Ripley, which will be held in the latter part of September. This is a perfect opportunity for cadets to participate in team-building exercises such as the confidence course, land navigation, military history, rock wall climbing, and a chance for the seniors to showcase their leadership skills. We also have started the planning for the Fall Review, Military Ball, and our annual all-JROTC service project.
The incoming 9th-grade JROTC uniform pick-up is scheduled for August 16 from 7 am-2 pm, and August 17 from 7 am-11 pm.
Students that are interested in attending any of the academies, ROTC, or military service should be completing the necessary applications and forms to move forward for the future. Let any of the instructors know if you need additional help!
As JROTC Raider Brigade moves forward, we continuously work hard to instill in our students the values of citizenship, service to the community and the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment.
As we close this school year, we are heartened to know that the wonderful students that just graduated have added to the tradition of excellence for the Raider Brigade. We are also heartened to see the great students advancing now in grade to become the leaders of the brigade for the upcoming 2021-2022 school year. Our next year will bring back a sense of normalcy for the cadets and we know they will shine.
As instructors, we thank you for the continued support of the CDH JROTC program. We are honored to be a part of your children’s lives and to teach them skills in leadership and citizen involvement.
Have a great summer, be safe and well.
