Dates for the Minnesota Private College Week this summer are June 22-26. A reminder to keep information on all your admissions decisions and financial aid awards. CDH will be surveying seniors in late April to collect this data.
Thank your teachers for your letters of recommendation. Remember that CDH teachers write hundreds of letters of recommendation for students as they apply to colleges and universities - over and above all the other responsibilities they have as classroom teachers and coaches. Please take a minute to thank them for this very important work that they do on your behalf.
JROTC
Fantastic news!!! We just completed the incoming 9th-grade registration and we are ecstatic to announce we have registered 83 incoming students for JROTC. This is the second-largest incoming JROTC class in 25 years. We have now set a new record of young women enrolling as well. Thirty young women have chosen our program for their experience at CDH! With this registration and factoring in our senior graduates, we project our opening enrollment to be over 300 cadets!
Our Raider Brigade hosted our 30th Annual Upper Midwest JROTC Challenge on February 7. Fourteen schools attended. Our Regulation Drill Team and the Physical Fitness teams placed first in their events. Our Color Guard placed third. What a wonderful and successful day.
The Honor Guard continues to represent JROTC and CDH at many events. The dedicated students who give freely of their time are so appreciated by our CDH community. Our most recent event was assisting at the Retired NFL Players Association of Minnesota at the Minneapolis Hilton Hotel.
Regulation Drill, Color Guard, and our Armed Precision Drill teams continue to practice in earnest in preparation for our Annual Formal Inspection on April 1, 2020 and for the Twilight Parade on May 13 at 6 pm.
Our Military Ball was held on February 22 at Ideal Hall in St. Paul. Over 230 cadets and guests attended. The young women and men looked fantastic in their formal attire and after a great meal, danced the night away!
Orienteering season has started. Those interested should look for information on our bulletin board for upcoming events.
Our Flight Club recently took a tour of the Delta Airlines maintenance facility at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport. Eighteen cadets made the trip and were able to learn about aircraft maintenance and explore the inner working of an aviation maintenance facility.
Please mark your calendars for May 13 at 6 pm. We will again carry on the tradition of the Twilight Parade. Our Corps of Cadets will pass in review on Wingerd field showing their skills at marching as well as helping to celebrate many honors that will be awarded that evening to many cadets.
Our seniors are beginning to receive nominations from members of Congress for the academies and ROTC scholarships. Juniors should be taking time to review the steps and begin their application process. If someone is considering enlisting in the military, please have them consult with us so we can make sure they have ALL the information. We are always willing to answer any questions that students or parents have about military service.
We have begun emailing the weekly lab announcements out to parents as another way to keep you informed. If you have not been receiving the emails and would like to, please provide your email address to the JROTC Department. Follow us on Instagram @Raider_Brigade.
Band
By Jeffrey P. Ruhnke, Band Director
Theater
Congratulations to the cast and crew of1984 on a powerful and thought-provoking black box production. Audiences were moved by the relevancy of the content and the maturity of the actors. Bravo!
The theater is busier than ever preparing for the spring musical, Holiday Inn! Updated from the 1943 film starring Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire, the musical is stacked with catchy tunes by Irving Berlin like Steppin’ Out with My Baby, Blue Skies and White Christmas.
Tickets will go on sale in early April. We are anxious to spread the joy that only the spring musical can bring to audiences. As the lyrics say, “If you’re burdened down with trouble. If your nerves are wearing thin. Park your load down the road. And come to Holiday Inn!”
