2019 Raider Summer Camp Opportunities
For younger players ready to gain fundamental skills and get into the game, Raider Hockey Skills Camps are the best place to start! Students are given the opportunity to learn the game of hockey at a pace suitable for their skill and ability, with plenty of practice time — programs are built around on-ice instruction, focusing on power-skating, shooting, passing, positional playing, and small area games. Participants learn and practice under personalized direction from Cretin-Derham Hall’s hockey staff as well as current varsity players, alumni and guest instructors. We will have two sessions for all future Raiders to join us for the fun.

Counseling
by Joan O'Connell, College Counselor
The CDH Education Fair was held April 8 for junior students and their families. We hosted over 100 colleges and universities that evening. Students found it to be a convenient way to make contact with admissions representatives and get their questions answered. A special thanks to the Post-Secondary Parent Committee for hosting a dinner for admissions representatives prior to the event!
Attention Juniors
-
Be sure to check your CDH Naviance account for information about the college search process. Remember to take the online career inventories by clicking on “Do What You Are”, “StrengthsExplorer” and “career interest profiler” for some additional career possibilities!
-
The late registration deadline for the June 8 ACT test is May 20. Register online at www.actstudent.org.
-
The dates for the Minnesota Private College Week this year are June 24– 28, 2019. All of the private colleges in Minnesota welcome prospective students and their parents to campus during this week, in both morning and afternoon sessions. Wisconsin’s private colleges will host a similar visiting week this summer from July 8–13, 2019. Call colleges or go online in advance to let them know you would like to attend.
Attention Seniors
-
Colleges will be sending you important information on housing, registration, and orientation. Be sure to read and respond to your email.
-
A reminder that ALL colleges require a final transcript of your high school grades as a condition of enrollment so be sure to continue to do your best work! Major schedule changes or an obvious drop in grades senior year can have consequences including the loss of merit scholarships and/or your spot in the incoming class.
-
It is contrary to the "Statement of Principles of Good Practice" of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling for students to make multiple college enrollment deposits. CDH will send only one final transcript in June. Consult with your counselor if you need help making your decision as the consequences of “multiple depositing” can include rescinding offers of admission.
-
Graduates in the Class of 2019 who have paid for PACC (Program for Advanced College Credit) credits from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and who want to get college credits for these courses must have a transcript sent from St. Mary’s to the college or university where the student will attend this fall. That school can then determine whether or not they will award college credit for this work in high school. To request an official St. Mary’s transcript, visit the website at www.smumn.edu and search for PACC to be directed to the appropriate webpage for a transcript request. Questions? Call St. Mary’s at 1-800-635-5987 ext.1501.
-
If you took CIS (College in the Schools) Classes at CDH through the University of Minnesota and want these classes to be considered for college credit at the school you will attend next fall, you will need to request an official University of MN transcript. Go to www.onestop.umn.edu and click “Grades & Transcripts” to request your transcript.
-
To send your AP scores to your college, go to https://apscore.collegeboard.org and follow instructions. Scores for tests taken in May of 2019 will be available in July.
-
Graduating seniors who are planning to attend state colleges and universities in Wisconsin must file a “Tuition Reciprocity Application” with the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office in order to receive tuition reciprocity. Applications for the 2019-2020 academic year are available online at www.getreadyforcollege.org. This application must be filed and approved before a student can register for classes at the reduced tuition rate — so don’t delay. If you are attending a public university in North or South Dakota, you will arrange for reciprocity through the school you will attend.
-
Remember that CDH teachers write hundreds of letters of recommendation for students as they apply to colleges and universities — over and above all the other responsibilities they have as classroom teachers and coaches. Be sure to let your recommenders know where you have decided to attend college in the fall and please take a minute to thank them for this very important work that they do on your behalf.
