Boys Lacrosse

By Matt Hourigan, Head Coach

The Boys Lacrosse Team is off to its best start since 2013. Midway through the regular season, the Raiders are 5-2 with quality wins over Suburban East Conference rivals White Bear Lake and Woodbury.

The team has been led by stellar play in the net by Goalie Eddie Kielkopf ’23, who has stopped 71% of shots faced. Kielkopf and Captain Will Kaatz ’21 lead a solid defensive unit composed of  Sean Mix ’22Dave Mix ’23, and Aidan Siegfried ’24 that has allowed a conference-best average of only four goals per game.

Gabe Rasmussen ’22 (18g,16a), Luke McCarthy ’22 (19g,10a), and Owen Dobbs ’22 (9g,2a) lead the team in scoring and Captain Chuck Altier ’21 (7g,3a) leads the team with 34 ground balls.

Kielkopf and Rasmussen were both nominated by the Star Tribune's MN Lax Hub for Player of the Week already this season.

Softball

By Patrick Bowlin, Head Coach

The softball team is currently 3-8 with wins over Roseville, Mounds View, and Irondale. Both Catie Gaertner ’23 and Brooke Nesdahl ’25 have shown growth in the pitcher's circle in their first year of varsity action. On offense, the team is led by Frances Staples ’21 with a .391 batting average,  Sammy Muetzel ’22 with a .355 batting average including seven extra base hits, and Anna Caruso ’22 with a .314 batting average.

The Suburban East conference features three ranked teams in Class 4A and will continue to test the Raiders throughout the regular season. The team remains focused on continuous improvement and is looking to make a deep run in the section tournament.

Boys Tennis

By Randy Muetzel, Head Coach

The Tennis team has been led by captains John Harms ’21, Theo Paar ’21, and Charlie Strain ’21.  At this point in our season, the strength of our team is in our upper singles positions which are Paar, Harms, and Nate Muetzel ’22. Each of them, as well as everyone else, has been very coachable and has improved a lot from the start of the season. We are looking forward to the section playoffs which start on May 20.

Track and Field

By Jerry Macken, Head Coach

Ben Hobbs ’22 has been undefeated the last two weeks in the 400-meter dash; winning the Bob Stewart Invitational at Mounds View in 53.05s and the Roseville Quad in 54.12s. Hobbs was also second in the 200-meter dash at the Bob Stewart Invite in 24.51s.

Sana Anetipa ’22 and Charlie Plum ’22 have been scoring points for the team in the Long, Triple and High Jump events as well as being leaders in the sprints. On the Girls side, Olivia Allen ’21 has been impressive in the Shot Put and Discus. Allen regularly finishes in the top three at meets. Allison Sowatzka ’22 has been a leader in building a team-first mentality where the girls help out wherever they can. The attitudes have been positive and times are improving every week.

Girls Golf

By Megan Smith ’00, Head Coach

The Girls Golf team had a huge turnout totaling 51 players for the 2021 season!

The golf season is coming to an end with conference finals scheduled for May 19 (JV) at Oneka Ridge and May 20 (Varsity) at Oak Glen. The final practice for the Development Team is on May 12 at Highland golf course.

The Varsity players have shown improvement with solid scores playing on the course and positive attitudes dealing with the weather.

Highlights include scores from Ellie Cassidy '23, Megan Haugh '21, and Kinni Rubbelke '21 at the 18-hole mid-conference match at Troy Burne as well as conference match play from Kalina Fitzgerald '21, Lexi Rooney '21, and Catherine Tracy '21.

Notable JV players include Molly Magnuson '24, Else Wermager '24, Natasha Krieger '22, Katie Votel '23, and Megan Delsing '22. Although the Varsity seniors will be missed next year, there is no doubt the JV players will step into their new roles and post low scores! Go Raiders!

Band

By Nick Zahler, Band Director

The year is almost over, but the band hasn’t stopped just yet! The CDH Band will be hosting its first and only live concert of the year on Thursday, May 20 at 7 pm. While the concert venue will not be open to the public, it will be available for home-viewing via either a live stream or temporarily accessible recording. Remote-viewing information will be shared on the CDH homepage when it is available. The performance will be a celebration of all the hard work the students have put in during this difficult year.

In other news, Lauren Loeffler '21 and Marie Evenson '21 performed virtually with the Minnesota All-State Band. Their performance will be publicly available on YouTube on Monday, May 17 at 7 pm. It is a tremendous honor to represent the school at that level, and the show is sure to be wonderful.

Counseling

By Joan O'Connell, College Counselor

Attention Juniors

  • Remember to take the online career inventories on Naviance by clicking on the menu then “Self Discovery,” then “Personality,” “StrengthsExplorer” and “Career Interest Profiler” for some additional career possibilities!

  • Remember to ask for your teacher recommendations for college applications. Instructions were sent to your CDH email on April 14.

Attention Seniors

A reminder that ALL colleges require a final official transcript of your high school grades as proof of graduation and as a condition of enrollment. In mid-June, once all third-trimester grades have been submitted and recorded, CDH will send your final official transcript to the college/university you indicated that you will attend on your senior survey. Unless you change your mind about where you will attend, no other request is necessary. If you have a college advising/registration appointment prior to mid-June and need a transcript, you can use an unofficial copy on your Infinite Campus account.  Please complete your Class of 2021 Senior Survey on Naviance as soon as possible

It is contrary to the "Code of Ethics and Professional Practices" of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling for students to make multiple college enrollment deposits. CDH will send only one final transcript in June. Consult with your counselor if you need help making your decision.

Graduates in the Class of 2021 who have paid for PACC (Program for Advanced College Credit) credits from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota and who want to get college credits for these courses must have a transcript sent from St. Mary’s to the college or university where the student will attend this fall. Your college can then determine whether or not they will award college credit for this work in high school. Wait until mid-June to request a college transcript, as CDH has to get the final grades to the college – usually by early June. To request an official St. Mary’s transcript, go to their website. Click on "National Student Clearinghouse", type in Saint Mary's University of Minnesota (it will start auto-filling but you must spell out Saint). You will then be able to order your transcript.  If you do not know your ID number, you can use your social security number. Questions?  Call St. Mary’s at 507-457-1501.

If you took CIS (College in the Schools) Classes at CDH through the University of Minnesota and want these classes to be considered for college credit at the school you will attend next fall you will need to request an official University of MN transcript. Go to www.onestop.umn.edu, under the “Academics” tab and click “Grades & Transcripts” to request your transcript.  Instructions will also be given to you by your CDH teacher.

To send your AP scores to your college, go to https://apscore.collegeboard.org and follow instructions. Scores for tests taken in May of 2021 will be available in July.

Graduating seniors who are planning to attend state colleges and universities in Wisconsin must file a “Tuition Reciprocity Application” with the Minnesota Higher Education Services Office in order to receive tuition reciprocity.  Applications for the 2021-2022 academic year are available online. This application must be filed and approved before a student can register for classes at the reduced tuition rate - so don’t delay. If you are attending a public university in North or South Dakota, arrange for reciprocity through the school you will attend.

Please remember that CDH teachers write hundreds of letters of recommendation for students as they apply to colleges and universities - over and above all the other responsibilities they have as classroom teachers and coaches. Be sure to let your recommenders know where you have decided to attend college in the fall and please take a minute to thank them for this very important work that they do on your behalf.

JROTC had another successful 9th-grade registration this spring, and our enrollment numbers continue to trend upwards. Once again, our opening enrollment in the JROTC program is projected to be well over 300 students. This makes us one of the largest stand-alone JROTC programs in the Midwest.

We are in the planning stages of our annual adventure training weekend at Camp Ripley, which will be held in late September. This is always a perfect opportunity for the cadets to participate in team-building exercises such as the confidence course, land navigation, military history, rock wall climbing, and a chance for the seniors to showcase their leadership skills.

Students that are interested in attending any of the academies, ROTC, or military service should be completing the necessary applications and forms to move forward for the future. Let any of the instructors know if you need additional help!

As JROTC Raider Brigade moves forward, we continuously work hard to instill in our students the values of citizenship, service to the community and the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment.

Thank you for the continued support, stay healthy and be well!
