Hispanic Heritage is Celebrated with Student Reflections and Traditional Dance

October 7, 2024

On October 7, we celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a gathering in the Joe Mauer Field House. The event featured personal stories shared by students and faculty, along with performances by the Aztec Mexica Nahuatl Chichimeca Danza Group. The audience was not only treated to the traditional dances but also had the opportunity to join in and learn some steps themselves.

The Danza Group, dedicated to preserving the cultural heritage of their ancestors, explained the significance of each dance. Through traditional danza, ceremonies, drumming, and storytelling, they aim to inspire unity, pride, and a deeper understanding of indigenous wisdom. Their performances serve as a powerful connection to the earth, cosmos, and community, keeping these sacred practices alive for future generations.

Speakers for the event included students Carla Contreras ’27, Denise Bueno ’27, Jessica Gomez ’28, Ava Breeden ’25, Jaziel Enrique Olvera ’26, and CDH Values teacher Ms. Devos, who either helped lead the event or shared reflections on their cultural journeys.
