Joe Mauer'01 Field House
October 19, 2015
In recognition of the transformational philanthropy of Joe Mauer’01 and Madeline Bisanz Mauer’01, Cretin-Derham Hall dedicated the Joe Mauer Field House in his honor.
Long before his impressive professional baseball career, Joseph Mauer’01 was a high school athlete of unique distinction. Representing Cretin-Derham Hall, he was a standout in basketball, football and baseball. Earning significant national recognition for his accomplishments in all three sports in high school, Joe was the first round draft pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2001.
As a Minnesota Twin, Joe is a fan favorite. He is the only catcher in Major League Baseball history to win three batting titles. He was also awarded three Golden Gloves, five Silver Sluggers and six appearances to the All-Star games, and was named the American League MVP.
Joe and his wife, Maddie’01, also an accomplished student athlete, have deep roots in the St. Paul community. Both were born and raised in St. Paul and attended area Catholic schools. They met as students at Cretin-Derham Hall. Married in 2012, they are raising their family in the Twin Cities.
The Mauers’ philanthropy is reflective of their deeply held commitment to compassionate service, and includes support for organizations dedicated to education, developmental disabilities, healthcare, and youth athletics.
At the dedication ceremony, the Mauer’s were joined by family and friends for a special blessing by CDH Chaplain Fr. Patrick Kennedy’69.
