JROTC Gives Back at Free Bikes 4 Kidz
March 8, 2022
On March 8, members of the Raider Brigade volunteered to clean up bikes at Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN. This organization collects, repairs, and gives over 15,000 bicycles to young people every year.
"Having your own bike allows someone to obtain transportation, have fun, and to exercise," said Sofia Heer '22, who organized the service opportunity. "Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN gives those families access to those things and touches their lives and the community around them."
The students got to tour the organization's warehouse, holding more than 10,000 bikes ready for distribution, and then helped clean more than 160 bikes - a record!
Heer is passionate about service and was glad to connect CDH to this organization.
"Service gives me a sense of satisfaction, and it makes me feel good that I am helping people that may be struggling," Heer said. "My parents have always told me the #1 thing we can do is to give back to the community. Whether it’s buying essential items at a local grocery store for homeless people, volunteering at Meals on Wheels, or working at an amazing organization such as Free Bikes 4 Kidz MN, any volunteer opportunities can help change the lives of so many people."
