Letter from the Principal - May 2024

May 8, 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am always sentimental in May but feel particularly so this year. The time to bid farewell to our seniors is quickly approaching. I want to take the opportunity to address this May letter to the seniors and their parents. While each class has its own personality, there is something uniquely special about this class.

Seniors, you have undoubtedly faced your share of disappointment. You started high school on a hybrid schedule, wearing masks while trying to meet new people in a new school. Some people criticized you for using phones and social media, but that’s how you made human connections. You could be angry, dismissive, and cynical. Instead, you are gracious, accepting, and grateful.

During those times that adults let you down; you held us up. We all learned how to navigate uncertainty together. Because of this, we have a common bond that other generations don’t share. Yes, adults possess wisdom, but young people offer fresh perspective. Thank you for reminding us what matters and for trusting us.

I don’t know what the world has in store or what your future will look like. You will know how this story turns out. I never will. What I do know is that this world is changing, and before we know it, you will be in charge. I have faith that you are embarking on this journey with a strong foundation. Your parents, teachers, and other caring adults in your life certainly made sure of that.

Seniors, I will miss you. And finally, no matter what the future holds, remember that you are in the Holy Presence of God and love God and the dear neighbor without distinction.

With gratitude,

Mona Passman
