Letter from the Principal - October 2024

October 9, 2024

Dear Parents and Guardians,

According to the calendar, it’s autumn. While the weather may be telling us otherwise, we are already at the mid-trimester.  Mid-trimester grades provide students and parents with important feedback about student progress.

I invite you to attend in-person, drop-in conferences on Tuesday, October 15, or virtual conferences on Wednesday, October 16. When you arrive, you may pick up a paper copy of your student’s report card and meet with teachers in the Field House. Wednesday conferences will be held via Zoom, and appointments are required.

Parent and guardian engagement is essential for building a successful learning environment at school and home. Numerous studies have shown that students whose parents are engaged in the learning process benefit in the classroom and beyond. According to the Anne E. Casey Foundation, children whose families are engaged in their education are more likely to:

  • earn higher grades and score higher on tests;

  • graduate from high school and college;

  • develop self-confidence and motivation in the classroom; and

  • have better social skills and classroom behavior.

Conferences provide an excellent opportunity for parent engagement. Parents can meet with teachers to discuss students’ academic progress and teacher expectations. Parents can also share insights into what they are witnessing at home. It is an important time to connect with the teachers and build a partnership with them. I assure you that they care about your students beyond their academic achievement.

Enjoy the remainder of the fall season.

In partnership,

Mona
