Letter from the Principal
May 9, 2018
Dear Parents and Guardians,
May is bittersweet because it provides time for both celebrations and goodbyes. Our seniors are celebrating the culmination of their high school experience along with the promise of new beginnings. They are also saying goodbye to their many friends, parents, and teachers. As significant adults in their lives, we will share many of these moments with them. Like many of you, my eyes can become misty in these moments. That’s okay. It serves as a reminder of how significant these young adults are in our lives.
This spring is particularly bittersweet because we are also saying goodbye to eight remarkable teachers who are retiring at the end of this school year. Together, Mary Robison, Mamie Fabel, Dan Rosen, Mark Syman, Steve Williams, Tim Spika, David Cadoret, and Connie McMahon have dedicated over 260 years to the students of Derham Hall, Cretin, and Cretin-Derham Hall. Over the years, they have collectively said goodbye to thousands of seniors. Now it is our turn to say goodbye to them.
These teachers taught during the merger or were hired soon thereafter. They, along with other teachers and staff, dedicated their professional lives to upholding the vision of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and the Christian Brothers. Without their commitment, CDH would not be the school it is today. Their impact is immeasurable.
On a personal level, it has been an honor to work with Mary, Mamie, Dan, Mark, Steve, Tim, David, and Connie and a blessing to call them my friends. I am going to miss them tremendously and I am certain that my colleagues share this sentiment. I encourage you to join me in thanking them by leaving a private note on our website. I know they will appreciate hearing from you.
To our graduates, their parents, and our retiring teachers, I offer a fond farewell and a prayer for God’s loving grace and peace in your lives.
