Renato Lombardi has brought a new vibrant light to the CDH Spanish department since he joined the faculty at the end of 2020. As an Argentinian immigrant, he has much to offer and show his students.
“I want to give my students hands-on experience with their curriculum,” he said. “Instead of just drilling Spanish rules into your brain, learning the culture and conversation is very important to me.”
Lombardi left Argentina in hopes of pursuing his art career, producing music and performing, as well as creating portraits and drawings. He found jobs teaching in fine arts, music, and finally Spanish.
When he came to CDH, bringing his son Luca Lombardi '23 as well, he took on the challenge of filling in the shoes of beloved recently retired Spanish teachers. Lombardi has adapted and excelled, utilizing his own teaching style which his students love.
“Mr. Lombardi’s class is my favorite class because we all get to know each other. We have café time and really enjoy listening to what each other has to say,” said Jane Zirnhelt '22.
Zirnhelt, along with many other Spanish 503 students, appreciates Lombardi’s enthusiasm and care for students in his class.
Lombardi often combines his passion for the arts and music with his teaching. Incorporating art into Spanish class brings a whole other side of life and culture. Lombardi is a great representation of the Latino culture and is proud to share it with his students every day.
