New Schedule Brings Longer Lunches, More Academic Options
August 22, 2019
Students returning to CDH this year will find a new schedule that offers longer lunches and more flexibility in class scheduling.
Previously, there were four lunch periods each day, one for each class. This limited the classes that were able to be offered, since it was difficult to schedule mixed grade-level classes. The new schedule has three lunches, each of which will be mixed with students from all grades. The switch removes that limitation in scheduling courses and will make it easier for students to take the classes that they want.
This change will also extend lunches from 22 minutes to 30 minutes. Students will have a bit of extra time to meet with clubs or activities, work on homework, or just relax with their friends for a few minutes. The additional minutes saved by removing one lunch were moved to create a ten minute passing period between 3rd and 4th periods.
Homeroom has also been removed from the regular schedule, replaced by making 5th period 15 minutes longer than other classes. Most homeroom business will be handled in 5th period. Occasionally, we will use an alternative schedule when whole-class meetings need to be held.
Students will receive their lunch assignments on the first day of school.
The new schedule is as follows:

1 | 7:50 | 8:40 | Extra 5-minute prayer |
