Robots at the Fair
September 11, 2019
As a part of the Minnesota State Fair, the Cretin-Derham Hall Robotics team participated in the activities of the Education building on Sunday, September 1.
The team completed multiple demonstrations throughout the day along with other local teams. Each of these demonstrations provided the opportunity to share the mission of FIRST Robotics Competition, discuss the team’s strategies for the 2018-2019 season, and demonstrate the robot's capabilities. Last year’s season included a challenge to pick up and place disks on the field elements at multiple heights. The CDH robot and team was able to complete this task quickly, even after a summer off of practice!
The demonstrations also included some mini-games (such as tag) against other local robots, and the opportunity for children from the crowd to come up and their hand at driving the bot. Between demonstration times, the team would interact with the crowd to answer questions about the robots, competitions, and their own experience with the team.
Though the weather was pretty gloomy in the morning, it cleared up just in time for the robot to ride on a cart for the State Fair parade in the afternoon!
