Allie Sowatzka '22 joined the Performance Dance team as a senior this year. At Cretin-Derham Hall, there are so many opportunities for students to be a part of the community. Allie Sowatzka '22 is one example of a student who goes above and beyond to be involved.

She has played a vital role in the new Ambassador Club, where students work with the Admissions department to plan events for incoming and new students. “Allie spearheaded every committee we have in this club. She made the club into something bigger that I could’ve done,” said Admissions Associate and English teacher Laura Weiss.

One of Sowatzka’s favorite activities is the Student Council. They play a big role in planning events for our school community. Sowatzka says that it is her favorite activity because it “embodies everything I love: leadership, service, school spirit.”

Last month, we celebrated Homecoming week. At the pep fest and football game, Sowatzka was busy running the Raider flag up and down the gym and field in her dance uniform. As a Superfan, student council member, and dance team member, Sowatzka was busy planning and executing all aspects of the week. Although she was overwhelmed during the week, ultimately Sowatzka said, “It was so worth it in the end.”

As a senior, Sowatzka is still trying new things. This year, instead of playing soccer, she joined the fall dance team, and had never danced before. She took a friend’s encouragement and tried something out of her comfort zone, and absolutely loved it.

“I had no idea what to expect on the first day of practice. I found a team of girls who supported me on and off the stage, and coaches who boosted my confidence at every opportunity,” Sowatzka said.

Not only is she involved in various activities, she also challenges herself in the classroom. In 9th grade, she took a programming class, unsure of what she would think, but found it fascinating. Her love for this class motivated her to take AP Programming this year.

“Allie is the most energetic, positive, and just motivated person,” Weiss said. Sowatzka tries new things, and challenges herself. She is able to do this because of the support we give each other at CDH. “I love how supportive we are of each other,” Sowatzka said. This is the thing she loves most about Cretin-Derham Hall.
