SPPD Returns to Campus to Offer New Perspectives
Ms. Becki Medellin'88, Spanish Teacher
October 19, 2017
Ms. Becki Medellin'88 has started a new tradition in her Spanish classes. Last year she invited Sgt. Mike DeTomaso, Officer Benny Williams, and Officer Mong Lee to visit her classrooms for a question and answer session with her students.
Sgt. DeTomaso, Officer Williams, and Officer Lee returned to Cretin-Derham Hall on October 17 and 18 to speak to her Spanish 200 level classes. The main topic was: life as a police officer. Students generated questions for the officers and they discussed issues often faced by the police. It was an interesting break from verbs and vocabulary and gave students an opportunity to engage in conversation with police officers about the importance of understanding different perspectives.
The officers plan on coming back to visit these classes during second and third trimesters as well. Ms. Medellin and her students extend their thanks to the officers for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and speak to these classes.
