Students Learn Basics of Athletic Training
April 14, 2021
Bryan 'BJ' Jaquette joined CDH this fall as the Athletic Trainer. He brought with him a program that had been successful at previous schools he's worked at - Student Athletic Trainer Assistants (SATAs).
Jaquette took on four SATAs in the fall and has three for the spring season, Riley Lindgren '24, Maren Gainer '23, and Nora Perrault '22. He was not able to offer the program in the winter due to the shortened season.
The students are involved in all aspects of Athletic Training. This includes learning about anatomy, medical terminology, how to tape, stretch, the use of therapeutic modalities, wound care, stretching, rehab, game and practice coverage to name a few.
"I hope the students will get a taste of what athletic training and the medical profession is all about," Jaquette said. "If students are interested in being a nurse, physician, or physical therapist, this could be a great opportunity to get some experience and be involved in a patient’s care."
Students are not expected to have any prior knowledge. Interested students should keep an eye out for the next round of spots that will be available in the fall.
