Superfans Stand Tall at CDH
October 12, 2022
You see their colorful themed attire. You hear their passionate roar. They are the CDH Superfans.
An official student organization, Superfans are full of Raider spirit and ready to cheer on their fellow student-athletes. At each home football game, you can find the Superfans located on the track in front of the student section at UST. The Superfans have taken a step forward and now are attending sporting events across the board at CDH.
All students and student-athletes join in on the fun and electric energy the Superfans bring to athletic events. According to Superfans moderator Jerry Kline ’93, around 100 students have inquired about becoming a Superfan. Because the group commits to many events, covering all sports, the highest number of Superfan participants they’ve had at one sporting event is 18.
The students use their bodies to display themes, and they also make a significant time commitment to get ready for each event. Typically, the group gets to games an hour before the scheduled game time. Unless there is a designated color for fans to wear, the purple with gold lettering is the go-to color scheme for the Superfans.
Deciding what message the Superfans will convey is a group effort. Sometimes the Superfans reach out to fellow fans via social media to get ideas, other times it is decided by a group text among members or the decision is made by the Superfans committee.
“It’s all good-natured things,” Kline said when asked about deciding on the what type of attire or theme for the fans to wear. “They are always well thought out and respectful.”
The Superfans’ dedication to supporting the Raiders from beginning to end can bring the student section together during both good and bad times. “Rain or shine, cold or heat, we’ve been through it all,” Kline said.
“It just shows the endurance and passion of the CDH students. If you believe and love CDH enough, you’ll go through anything.”
