Each spring, high schools across St. Paul nominate an outstanding female athlete for the Athena award. Now in its 26th year, the St. Paul Area Athena Awards honors female athletes for their dedication and excellence in sports. This year, the luncheon that was scheduled for April 22 had to be canceled. While she has achieved many things during her time at CDH, her strength of character also makes her stand out.
"Humility is one of the most important qualities an individual can possess," said Art teacher Martha Thornton '99, one of Sydney's recommenders. "Sydney Jackson has the reputation of being good at everything that she attempts. One thing that people might not be aware of is the hours and hours she puts into all of her successes, or how she composes herself when she falls just short. Always - and I mean always - with class, grace and lots of style."
In the fall, Sydney will be attending Concordia St. Paul, where she will continue to run track. She plans to major in nursing with a minor in Spanish. Congratulations, Sydney!
