The Raiders Boys Basketball and Girls Basketball programs had two recent alumni commit to a pair of Division 1 schools this week.
Curtis Jones ’20 has committed to Iowa State men's basketball through the transfer portal, he announced on social media Monday.
The 6-foot-5, 180-pound rising junior was Buffalo’s leading scorer last season and entered the portal in late March. Jones visited Iowa State this past weekend, several weeks after entering the portal after two seasons with Buffalo.
He started all 31 games during the 2022-23 season and averaged 15 points and 4.8 rebounds in over 31 minutes of play per game. His performance this past season showed a marked improvement from his first year at Buffalo, in which he recorded an average of 2.5 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
A native of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jones appeared in 24 games at Indian Hills Community College during the 2020-21 season. He averaged 12.1 points, six rebounds and 5.5 assists per contest.
Jones comes to Iowa State with two remaining years of eligibility and fills the last remaining scholarship spot for the Cyclones.
Frannie Hottinger ’19 announced her commitment to play for Marquette University next season.
Hottinger, a 6’1” guard/forward from Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, spent the past four seasons at Lehigh. After 27 appearances as a freshman off the bench for the Mountain Hawks, she started in 15 of their 16 games in the 2020-21 season, averaging 14.2 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Injury limited her to just 20 games as a junior, but when available, Hottinger was usually starting and added 10.5 points and 5.4 rebounds on average. This past season, she started all 30 games for Lehigh, narrowly missing averaging a double-double on 20.4 points and 9.7 rebounds a night, plus she added just over an assist and a steal as well. Those numbers, including breaking Lehigh’s single season scoring record, even for a 16-14 team that went 13-7 in the Patriot League, was good enough to earn her PL Player of the Year honors.
