Two Seniors Selected to Attend U-MN Business Program
October 13, 2016
Current seniors, Molly Johnson and Audrey Hapka were among 50 high-achieving students selected to attend the Women Mean Business camp at the University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management this past summer.
Women Mean Business is a seven-day residential leadership experience open to high-achieving high school students who show an aptitude for leadership. Students explore management information systems, supply chain and operations and other fields. In addition, the students formed teams to solve real-world business problems. Women leaders also worked with the students to develop critical skills as well as practical tools such as resumes and personal statements.
While both girls have taken or are taking business classes at CDH, the camp expanded their understanding of the various fields of business, and enhanced their confidence in both team and individual situations and helped establish real networking opportunities with both professionals as well as their peers.
Audrey Hapka noted that the camp changed her view on her college and career greatly. "I am looking into majoring in entrepreneurship, business management or the technology side of business," she noted. "I need to work with and help people and I've found that it can easily be done in business."
The experience was empowering to Molly Johnson as well, giving her a sense of both the college and a career experience. As a residential camp at the University, the girls not only took courses from college professors, they also visited many of the major companies here in town.
"The main takeaway...is that no matter what your profession, women need to support one another in order for all to succeed," reflected Molly.
Both girls encouraged other CDH students to apply for this selective program.
