November 12, 2024

In honor of Veterans Day on November 11, there was a flag-raising ceremony near Wingerd Field, followed by a reception in the Commons. The event was attended by members of the Raider Brigade, JROTC staff, community members, alumni, and veterans, including distinguished alumni General (Retired) Joseph Votel '76, former Commander of U.S. Central Command.

The ceremony was hosted by the CDH Raider Brigade and the Alumni Association, with Scott Anderson ‘84, President of the CDH Alumni Board, welcoming guests. Alumni Board member Laurel Waldoch Clift ‘95 introduced CDH President Jeb Myers, who addressed the gathering.

Other speakers included Colonel Joe Scrocca, JROTC Senior Army Instructor, and Cadet Colonel Jeremiah Thom '25, Raider Brigade Commander.

Colonel Scrocca reflected on the significance of the day:
“Regardless of the military branch our Veterans have served, this day belongs to each of you and to the generations of veterans who came before us. Each is part of that proud legacy, and has served with honor and dignity. Each has lived an uncommon life under a common banner: a love of country and service to our nation.”

Cadet Colonel Thom also shared his gratitude:
“Thank you to the veterans and their families for the selfless service they have given to this country and the example they continue to set for me and the youth of this nation.”

We extend our heartfelt thanks to all veterans for their service to our country!
